The international cooperation between the Templar Corps International and the Secretary of State for Communities under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guiné-Bissau started on June 10 when the first Class of Electricity kicked off at the Domingos Ramos School in the capital city. Now a new Class was added, on the field of Plumbing, kicking off the 17 of June for 40 new students.

In the meeting held with His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos PInto Pereira in November 2025 [read the details here], the main focus was to create a Project that would help empower local youth to find a professional future in the country, instead of contemplating emigration as many are forced to. “To transform Guiné-Bissau and give it a new outlook for the future, local talent has to find local opportunities to be of service; that requires empowerment, training, development of existing skills and knowledge based on international standards”, said Luis de Matos, CEO of the Templar Corps International at the occasion. The same point was defended by Mr. Matos during the International Summit Africa, America, Europe – Migration and Diaspora that was held in Lisbon in March.

Classes and training on Electricity and Plumbing are just the start. New pupils will benefit from the Project in the next few weeks as new subjects will be rolled out. These are skills that can be used immediately in Bissau. Agriculture and Basic Administration will also become a staple for the Project. A list of over 175 qualifying students has been lined up, with 80 now having started their studies. It is expected that their internship (1 week) will take place in Portugal, with the help of Templar Corps partners (including Meddy Ambulances, Camarate Fire Department and others), provided the Visa process is unblocked by the Portuguese Embassy (at the moment there is a backlog of a few months).

We would like to thank the Government of Guiné-Bussau for their support; Dr. Afonso Mendes for his tireless local work without which the Project would not be viable; we would also like to thank trainers João Carrilho and Luis Cardoso who travelled from Lisbon, spent many days in Bissau and gave their best to change the lives of a few lucky students who will look back at the Summer of 2025 as “that moment” when everything locked together. Finally we would like to thank all those Templar Corps International members and friends who have supported the Project from day one. Nothing of notice is achieved when we are alone.
This project is another reminder that being a Templar in the 21st century requires far more than wearing a white mantle and a few jewels. The jewels that truly shine forever are the light in the eyes of the ones we touch with our service. Not unto us.

A cooperação internacional entre o Templar Corps International e a Secretaria de Estado das Comunidades do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros da Guiné-Bissau, teve início no dia 10 de junho, com o arranque da primeira turma de Eletricidade que teve lugar na Escola Domingos Ramos, na capital. Agora, uma nova turma foi adicionada, na área da Canalização, com início a 17 de junho, recebendo 40 novos alunos.
Na reunião realizada com Sua Excelência o Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros Carlos Pinto Pereira em novembro de 2025 [ler os detalhes aqui], o foco principal foi criar um projeto que permitisse capacitar os jovens locais, ajudando-os a encontrar um futuro profissional no seu próprio país, em vez de considerarem a emigração, como muitos se veem forçados a fazer. “Para transformar a Guiné-Bissau e oferecer-lhe uma nova perspetiva de futuro, o talento local tem de encontrar oportunidades locais para servir; isso exige capacitação, formação, desenvolvimento de competências existentes e conhecimento baseado em padrões internacionais”, afirmou Luís de Matos, CEO do Templar Corps International, na ocasião. O mesmo ponto foi por ele defendido durante a Cimeira Internacional África, América, Europa – Migração e Diáspora, realizada em Lisboa, em março.
As aulas e formações nas áreas de Eletricidade e Canalização são apenas o início. Novos alunos beneficiarão do Projeto nas próximas semanas, à medida que novas disciplinas forem lançadas. Estas são competências que podem ser imediatamente aplicadas em Bissau. Agricultura e Administração Básica também se tornarão disciplinas regulares do Projeto. Já foi organizada uma lista com mais de 175 alunos qualificados, sendo que 80 já iniciaram os seus estudos. Espera-se que os estágios (com duração de uma semana) tenham lugar em Portugal, com a ajuda dos parceiros do Templar Corps (incluindo Meddy Ambulances, Corpo de Bombeiros de Camarate, entre outros), desde que o processo de visto seja desbloqueado pela Embaixada de Portugal (que atualmente enfrenta um atraso de alguns meses).
Gostaríamos de agradecer ao Governo da Guiné-Bissau pelo seu apoio; ao Dr. Afonso Mendes pelo seu incansável trabalho local, sem o qual o Projeto não seria viável; e também aos formadores João Carrilho e Luís Cardoso, que viajaram de Lisboa, passaram vários dias em Bissau e deram o seu melhor para mudar a vida de alguns estudantes, que olharão para o Verão de 2025 como “aquele momento” em que tudo se encaixou. Finalmente, agradecemos a todos os membros e amigos do Templar Corps International que apoiaram o Projeto desde o primeiro dia. Nada de significativo se alcança sozinho.
Este projeto recorda de novo que ser Templário no século XXI exige muito mais do que usar um manto branco e algumas insígnias. As joias que verdadeiramente brilham para sempre são a luz nos olhos daqueles que tocamos com o nosso serviço. Non nobis.
