Geometric work begins with the Compass, just as a musical piece begins with the measure. The duration of a beat is determined not by the beginning of the first note (or by the point without place where the needle rests, which is the original leg of the Compass), but by the length of that note, which, through the interruption of sound, is its end. The duration of the sound — between the initial vibration and the silence — is the opening of the measure (which then repeats in cadence), just as it is the opening of the Compass, which determines the radius with which the circle is drawn.
In the same way, it is no coincidence that the word ‘ray’ lies at the root of the definition of the circle’s amplitude, as it does in the definition of the creation of life. The Ray, like the Compass, are metaphorical keys for understanding the real and the Real.
